Preparation for my "Day"
When the well runs dry
"Therefore, prepare your minds for action: be self-controlled, set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed."
I Peter 1:13
As you plan for your Day of Prayer and Vision, consider the possibility that sometimes ministry as a caring Christian and work as a paid employee can begin to jumble. At that moment it is possible to lose some of the passion that once drove you to serve others and the Lord. Being on call 24/7 can lead to a dry, desert feeling. If your spiritual life is in danger of becoming just a job, now is the time to plan for a Day of Prayer and Vision that will give you the opportunity to ask the Lord to renew your passion.
Going into your Day of Prayer and Vision with unresolved feelings of guilt is not productive. However, there are two kinds of guilt. When guilt is a result of sin, restoration is the first step. If guilt is misplaced or undeserved, you will need the objective feedback of others to help you sort it out. In either case, relief from guilt will almost certainly begin to restore water to the well! Don't start your Day of Prayer and Vision without talking to someone(s) in order to deal with issues of guilt.
For the "dark night" times in your life, it may be hard for you to even think about planning for a day away with the Lord. He seems far away and you cannot imagine that spending time alone will make a difference. To be honest, there are no guarantees; but you need this day anyway. Dry times require disciplined obedience that will carry you through when your relationship with the Lord seems distant. You will not regret putting forth the effort!
During this time of preparation, your Day of Prayer and Vision journal will help you gain objectivity as you reflect on how you are feeling
right now. Later on you will be encouraged as you compare how far you
have come with where you are now. Journal, even if you don't feel like
it!
