Sharing what I've learned

When I’m at a crossroad

"The greatest musicians need coaches and mentors and composers. A writer needs an editor and a publisher, and a publisher needs writers. No one can fulfill a vocation alone, we all need associations, partnerships, and structures that enable us to work collaboratively with others."
Gordon Smith in Courage and Calling

During this process, you have probably had a clear word from the Lord. However, seeking God's direction can result in confusion and frustration. Perhaps you are left with more questions than answers. This fellow traveler has a testimony to share with you.
Now would be a good time to prayerfully read through your Day of Prayer and Vision journal. Let your thoughts from these past few days turn over in your mind. Reflect, pray, and read over Scriptures the Lord gave you. Adding insights will help clarify what God is saying. Later, re-reading your journal will help keep you on the path, get you back on track, or re-define your focus.

An important result of understanding God's will is the ability to develop a personal and professional growth plan for the next year. The crossroad decisions that you are making affect everything that you do from here on out. It would be good to check out this missionary's growth plan to spark some ideas for your own. This template may help you get some ideas down on paper, which you can share with your friends and colleagues.

As part of a ministry team, you have the remarkable advantage of having the involvement of others in this process of finding God's will. Your colleagues will also play an integral role in helping you realize your growth plan (as you will theirs). There are others whose input will be of value as you stand at a crossroad. Your ministry coach (and/or supervisor), growth (accountability) partner and mentor(s) should have especially insightful contributions. If you are married, of course you will have worked through these issues with your spouse; but don't forget your immediate and extended family. God can use their advice and counsel to help you clarify issues. At the same time, your transparency - and dependence on God - will also increase their faith!
